About Your Write To Resilience

Your Write to Resilience is a guided wellness practice based on the science of journaling.

The process of expressing our emotions through writing has been shown in numerous studies to improve both physical and mental well-being. In Your Write to Resilience, we put pen to paper, writing as fast as we can, capturing our first thoughts - writing over our inner critic. This process offers a way to develop a new habit that boosts resilience in all aspects of life.

This is not a writing instruction class - there are no rules or requirements.  Our writing will be sloppy, loose, imperfect and unrestricted! Together we will co-create a safe space to express our thoughts and feelings through words.

For the artist in you, Your Write to Resilience is also a great way to generate beautiful raw materials for poems, blogs or memoirs. For newcomers and experienced writers alike, this process is an effective tool for getting down on paper the ideas that you have been wanting to develop.

What We Will Do

Each class I will offer a different set of writing prompts to explore our resilience. To get us started, I’ll read poetry or prose and we will write in lively 5 -10-minute bursts, capturing anything that comes to mind, without pausing, amending, or editing. Remember, the goal is to write faster than your inner critic!

At the end of each writing burst, we can choose to read out loud what we have written. When we read there is no need for explanations. We just read the raw material we created.  The rest of us will listen without comments, questions or judgement. I will be writing and reading alongside you.

We will close each session with time to silently reflect on what was uncovered through the writing and perhaps identify a personal commitment.

Where We Will Meet

We will be using Zoom as our online learning platform, except when a class series is being held in person at a host organization (see registration for details).

Testimonials

“Each session of ‘Your Write to Resilience’ brings with it an unexpected outpouring of new ideas. My thoughts and memories, my insights and experiences, which may have lain dormant previously suddenly come alive with the way Kathryn energizes and encourages us to ‘write loose and sloppy’, without editing or censoring ourselves. It's liberating and builds confidence in our own writing in a surprising way.”

“Be prepared to be surprised by the wisdom and whimsy that comes with writing through this class ‘Your Write to Resilience’.  I have been writing for a number of years and no other program I have taken or been a part of has had such an effect.  That includes several summers at the Iowa Writer's Workshop.  Learning to write Loose, Sloppy, and Imperfect and accepting that not only changed my writing but changed my sight line for writing.
Kathryn Santana Goldman is a teaching partner not to be missed.  She is conscious, thoughtful, and present for the participants in the group.  She never fails to bring all that she has to our table of writers.  I have done this program several times with several groups.  Each time I walk away saying to myself and others this approach is pure magic.  I continue to be amazed at what I have learned.  I look forward to the next opportunity.  Don't miss out, especially if you are willing to be surprised by yourself and what you bring to the table too.”

“Kathryn Goldman has a rare ability to create and hold a safe, non-judgemental space in which to write. She is also masterful at providing prompts, usually in the form of poetry, for the several writes per session. I was amazed at the variety and depth of ‘stories’ my fellow participants chose to share.

I believe most of the YWTR participants have found the class to be deeply healing. Having suffered from writer’s block for several years, in addition to being uplifting, YWTR helped jump-start my writing.

I can’t speak highly enough of Kathryn and the benefits of this class!”

“YWTR is my favorite writing class. I have taken it many times. The poems and prompts are varied which keeps the class interesting. I learn what I think about things when I write. Sometimes the thoughts tumble forth quickly and writing is easy. Other times I have to think a little harder to find my way into an idea. There is no pressure to share what I’ve written and that allows me to write without worrying what a ‘reader’ might think. I look forward to taking this class again and again.”
